Wo ist dieser Ort? (Algerien)
Hallo,
Dank
Chris S
Hello,
does anyone recognise this rock?
Somewhere near Youf Ehakit I think.
We were there in 1988 before GPS and blindly following a guide.
It would be nice to locate it.
We were on the Tiririne - Tadant - Tarabine piste from Djanet to Tam.
After the rock we came in along a oued up to Fort Mot' village, then turned left for Tam.
In 2006 I walked north up to this point: 22° 2'55.56"N 6°44'40.20"E
near some very similar rocks, but it was not my spikes, even from the back side.
thanks.

The one who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. Those who walk alone are likely to find themselves in places no one has ever been before.

Hi Chris,
this are the 'Cathedrals of Tin Egoleh', NNE of Youffe Ahakit.
Your photo was made exactly here: N22°21'6.75" E007°5'12.20".
Not reachable for us this time, unfortunatelly.
Cheers.

Re: Tin Egoleh cathedral
Thanks TGerd, I knew someone here would know.
I had a feeling it was north of Youf Ehakit and the guide may well have mentioned 'le cathedral' as that was the name I used later. And Tin Egoleh rings a bell too. That puts it east of my waypoint above. According to IGNs it is the massif to the east of the oued passage: http://g.co/maps/7na8u
'Not reachable'
I thought they announced they re-opened Tassili-Hoggar a few weeks ago.
Although it may be closed again since Timbuktu events last week...
Anyway, I'm not in a hurry.
I searched Google images for Tin Egoleh and found that panoramio site and ones like it - but surprisingly no picture of this distinctive cathedral rock. It faces south.
Does someone have a waypoint for the Cathedrals?
Chris
PS
Actually, I see from watching the terrible film again that the original image above is reversed.
But it makes little difference to recognise it. Correct image below

Re: Wo ist dieser Ort? (Algerien)
Hi Chris,
as I told you, we (Germans) don't get visa this time for Algeria from the algerian embasies.
Pls refer to the waypoint I gave you of the Tin Egoleh location N22°21'6.75" E007°5'12.20".
You can get there very easy from the south, from Tahaggart/Tin Tarabine straight N, or from the valley Oued Tadant dir S, the cathedrals are already to be seen from there.
OIC a Honda XL600LM, red engine, my old vehicle for Cameroun )
Bon courage.
