Libya Airlines’ Benghazi pilots to go on strike tomorrow

Libya Airlines pilots based in Benghazi say they plan to go on indefinite strike as of tomorrow over demands that the company’s headquarters be moved back to the city. They say that negotiations on the issue have broken down with the carrier’s management which they accuse of “intransigence”.

A strike will cause some problems for the airline but will not stop the carrier’s flights in and out of the city unless ground staff join in.

There were plans to start the strike on Sunday, but this was held off for five days to enable further talks.

A protest at the Libya Airlines offices in Benghazi on Sunday attracted little support.

Wer ist denn "Libya Airlines"?

Der National Carrier, Libyan Arab Airlines wurde wohl kuerzlich in Libyan Airlines umbenannt. Ist diese Gesellschaft gemeint - oder vielleicht Air Libya, welche tatsaechlich in Benghazi ihren Sitz hat.

Ich vermute, dass von Air Libya die Rede ist, da der Bericht auch diese Firma erwähnt. Es ist allerdings nicht auszuschliessen, dass sich der Schreiber aufgrund der Ähnlichkeit der Namen vertan hat.

Ok, wenn's Air Libya ist, dann wird's kaum einen Einfluss auf den Flugverkehr haben. Aber grundsaetzlich ist das Thema schon interessant - Benghazi ist natuerlich daran interessiert, dass mehr Firmen in Benghazi niedergelassen sind... in der Realitaet ist jedoch alles nach Tripoli gezogen, denn dort spielt halt die Musik.

Passengers at Tripoli International Airport were today left angry and confused when unannounced industrial action crippled Libyan Airlines schedules, leaving many stranded after flights were cancelled.

One traveller, who was booked on a flight to Istanbul, arrived at the airport this morning to find that his flight was absent from the departure boards. He told the Libya Herald that it was difficult to find staff to clarify or help. mehr...
