Offroad-Magazin.

Hijacking on Goba - Boane road 22.4.2013
________________________________________
Hi All, just thought I would share this with you ...
Yesterday at midday, friends of ours were hijacked a few kilometres inside the Moz border at Goba. Same MO as in a previous post - man dressed in military garb stopped the vehicle, stabbed the driver, pulled him out of the vehicle and tried to restart it - our friend managed to pick up a rock and hit the hijacker, who ran off into the bushes. There was another person on the side of the road a couple of meters before the guy pulled them over, and they thought they had been caught in a speed trap.
Our friend was taken to hospital in Maputo with stab wounds to the shoulder, and is doing well.
The hijacker is probably 'back at work' waiting for his next victim .... we will be going through there in 2 weeks time!!!
Beware aware of this problem please, and DON'T STOP for a man who is alone! The official roadblocks ALWAYS have more than one person.

Hi again all!
The situation on the Goba to Boane road is more serious than we think. Much has transpired since the attack on Monday, and it has transpired that these attacks are VERY well planned, the hijackers obviously have military training, they have spotters about 3km apart, they have orders for various vehicles, and they are VERY dangerous.
Our friend who was attacked on Monday was stabbed in the back of the neck, he is out of hospital but is a very lucky man! They actually saw a man sitting at the side of the road with a cellphone to his ear, about 3km before they were stopped.
The Moz authorities are sending a task team up there today to investigate, but it is VITALLY IMPORTANT that you REPORT any attack or incident to the police in Moz, or the SA embassy in Maputo. They need to have reports of these incidents in order be able to act on them, obviously.
I have been in touch with CARLOS CARVALHO in Maputo, and he is working tirelessly to make things safer for us in Moz. He has asked me to post his details on this forum, and if you are going to be travelling in Moz, please let Carlos have your details, date of travel etc. and he will assist you should you have any problems. He has been absolutely invaluable to us, so herewith his details.

Travel safe everyone!

Goba & maputo high jacking 25.4.2013

Hi All
Just received another report of another victim ….. no 6 ? ... maybe more ............ just yesterday evening ...........
(Bruce King gave me the report …. having met the victims this morning)
SCENARIO:-
• Two couples in their +/- 60's, two vehicles from Natal ... coming to do some fishing in Moz
• One car towing boat, other car not
• Car with boat goes through border .. the other has paperwork issues ( Maybe !!)
• Time is around 17.00 approaching dark
• Goes down pass towards Goba town, and just b4 bridge, sees one military dressed guy with reflective vest
• Nothing transpires
• Cross the bridge, another military dressed guy also with reflective vest stops them on the way up that hill
• 'You have paperwork issues step out car'
• Bam .. he stabs the man in the back with a small knife (thank goodness!)
• The wife tries to exit car, the perp gets into car and stalls it (real pro !)
• Drivers window still open and the car central locks , so the perp panics as he can't get out the car
• The guy gives the 'new driver' a couple good smacks with a stone, through the open window .. but he eventually gets out
• The guy still manages to smack the perp a few times with the rock .. but then the perp takes off into the bush ... (thank goodness …. again!)
• A red number plate car drives past and takes absolutely no notice and drives on
• Then a local Moz car, with SA owners, stops to render assistance
• Takes them to a clinic in Boane .. gets stitched up .. no aneasthetic …. Ouch !
• Last night late ... went to to Trauma center, jab jab ... and is reportedly OK
• Needs a Discovery window to complete his holiday … anyone with any ideas ?
These perps appear very amateurish with penknives and 'uniforms' etc .. so let's try knock this one on the head …… before it develops into something more serious
I am trying to get this circulated as far as possible .... including dip missions and security personnel.
Swazi is a popular destination per se, but not a busy road to, and if there are several links in this robbery chain, it is very difficult to combat.
Lesson no 1 ..
Travel STRICTLY in convoy, no matter how long it may take.
