Landminen - Minensituation | Algerien

Re: Landminen - Minensituation | Algerien
Hallo,
in manchen Regionen passiert das leider öfters:
http://www.elwatan.com/spip.php?page=ar ... icle=40242

Quelle: El Khabar[...] there are 3 millions landmines still planted, and threatening the life of the Algerians, while such a number was estimated at 11 millions, planted by the France army during the colonial era [...] In this regard, the Professor Adimi Messaoud, in his intervention concerning landmines situation in Algeria, and the existing methods to cope with them, has announced that the mines have been planted for the first time during the World War II, but they were planted largely during the Algerian revolution, when the colonial army has proceeded planting them around the Algeria territory, and notably along the eastern and western borders, across Challe and Maurice lines, which have been constructed to prevent arms entering Algeria, and blocking the Algerian fighters from crossing the western or eastern borders. They have been estimated at 11 millions.
Moreover, the terrorist groups have planted land mines during the 90’s, killing a great number of people, according to the same speaker, adding that Algeria has ratified Ottawa convention, and has managed removing 7819180 landmines, while 3 millions are still putting the life of many people in danger.

7.300 Landminen entschärft ...
Algeria destroyed in August 7,330 mines planted by the French army along the eastern and western borders during the independence war, APS reported today. The discovery and the destruction of the mines are part of the operation for the clearing of the minefields created by the French colonial army during the war (1954-1962). Of all destroyed mines, 5,316 were anti-personnel, 1,705 anti-group and 309 illuminating. Last October 20, France officially handed over to Algeria the plans for the location of the minefields created along the lines "Challe" and "Morice" by the French army at the eastern and western borders between 1956 and 1959. The Morice Line, named after French Defence Minister André Morice, made of mines and barbed wire, permanently patrolled, was built from July 1957 along the Algerian borders with Tunisia and Morocco. Some 460 km long at the Tunisian border and 700 km at the Moroccan border, the Morice Line was partially backed up by another line, called Challe Line after General Maurice Challe, army commander in Algeria from 1958 to 1960 ... mehr

15.000 Landminen zerstört ...
About 15,000 mines planted by France in colonial time were demolished by the Algerian Army in October. Algeria destroyed so far more than 330,000 mines all told, including 270,000 anti-personnel, under the Ottawa Convention which Algeria signed in 1997, news agency APS reported Monday. According to Algiers, three million anti-personnel mines out of a total of 11 million planted by the French Army during the 1954-1962 indipendence war, are still buried underground along the eastern adn western border. After years of negotiations, France handed over the map of the mines planted along the "Morice and Challe lines" at the eastern and western border, in October 2007. But Algerian military authroities maintain these papers are useless. The Morice Line, named after French Defence Minister André Morice, was palnted along the border with Tunisia and Morocco in July 1957. This line was partly doubled between 1958 and 1960 with the Challe Line, named after General Maurice Challe.

Weitere 5.136 Minen entlang der Grenzen unschädlich gemacht ...
The Algerian army found and destroyed 5,163 mines along the country's western and eastern borders in September according to a report for the Algerian news agency APS. The destruction of the mines is part of a mine-clearing programme to rid the area of the mine placed by the French army during the war in Algeria (1954-1962). The mine clearing started immediately after the war and the declaration of independence. Since 1962, the army has destroyed eight million mines of the 11,000 existing according to official documents. Only in 2007 did France officially give Algeria the map of the minefields along the Challé and Mauricé lines that go back to the years between 1956 and 1959. The mines were placed along the east and west frontiers to prevent fighters from the National Liberation Army coming into the country from Morocco and Tunisia.

Over 78,000 mines set during the colonial era were discovered and destroyed in Algeria during 2009. A monthly average of 6,500 mines neutralised, reported a statement from APS, which allowed a total area of over 522 hectares to be cleared out. Results that were called "encouraging" and that were obtained thanks "to the experience and strict application of safety measures that allowed for accidents to be avoided." Over 8.2 million explosive devices have been destroyed until today by the Algerian Army, about 75.3% of the total number of mines set by the French during the colonial period (1830-1962).
