Der nachfolgende Artikel beschreibt den Machtkampf zwischen zwei uns bekannten Terroristenführern: Belmokhtar und Droukdel. Jeder Beansprucht für sich die Führungsposition. Es geht wohl um die Frage: Wer ist der "bessere" Terrorist.

Belmokhtar, Droukdel spar over Sahel

One notorious Algerian terrorist set up shop in Libya, the other operates closer to home. But their biggest battle is now against each other, as they vie to be the favoured son in the Maghreb for "al-Qaeda Central".

Their blood feud even involves attempts to win the most press.

The Maghreb's most-wanted terrorist used the anniversary of Osama bin Laden's death to swear allegiance to his successor.

But Mokhtar Belmokhtar's declaration of adherence to Ayman al-Zawahiri, which he posted on Islamist websites, was upstaged by a statement put out by his former boss and current rival.

Belmokhtar (aka Laaouar) and Abdelmalek Droukdel are spending their energies on trying to outdo each other.

On May 1st, Droukdel's al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) claimed responsibility for the Iboudrarene ambush that left 11 Algerian troops dead last month. mehr...

Die verschiedenen Terrorgruppen sehen sich einem zunehmenden Konkurrenzkampf ausgesetzt. Daher setzen AQIM & Co. immer mehr auf jungen Nachwuchs mit technischen Fähigkeiten. Nicht nur der "Erfolg" im Kampf zählt. Wer die bessere Propagandemaschinerie unterhält, bekommt eher frisches Blut, um den Terror weiter unter das Volk zu bringen.
