CAIRO - President Hosni Mubarak will open within the coming few days the first stage of the 412 km-long Upper Egypt-Red Sea road, Investment Minister Mahmoud Mohieldin said. The first stage cost LE 1.8 billion, he said while inspecting the final touches of the first part of the road. The road will create opportunities for establishing new industrial and mining zones, urban and tourism development as well as land reclamation, he said, by facilitating movement between governorates. This road is one of the most important projects carried out in Upper Egypt, he added, and has been prepared with service centers, rest stops, gas stations, cell phone service and ambulance units.
