Wegen Kriegsverbrechen wird Sudans Präsident al-Baschir seit 2009 vom Internationalen Strafgerichtshof gesucht. Trotz zweier Haftbefehls reiste er mehrfach ins Ausland, derzeit ist er in Südafrika. Und da muss er vorerst auch bleiben - entschied jetzt der Oberste Gerichtshof in Pretoria. Der vom Internationalen Strafgerichtshof (IStGH) wegen Kriegsverbrechen gesuchte sudanesische Präsident Omar al-Baschir darf Südafrika laut einem Gerichtsurteil vorerst nicht verlassen. Diese Anordnung gelte so lange, bis eine Entscheidung über das Festnahme-Ersuchen des IStGH gefallen sei, erklärte der Oberste Gerichtshof in Pretoria.

A South African court has issued an interim order stopping Sudan's leader Omar al-Bashir, who faces war crimes charges, from leaving the country. The Pretoria High Court says Mr Bashir must stay until it rules on Monday on whether he should be handed over to the International Criminal Court (ICC). President Bashir is in Johannesburg for an African Union (AU) summit.

Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir on Tuesday has travelled to Morocco to hold discussions with the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The Saudi monarch is spending his annual vacation in the Moroccan port city of Tangier, where he arrived on Thursday. Al-Bashir flew to Tangier from the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott after he attended the 27th Arab League summit.

Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir on Friday said he didn’t breach or rebel against the international order but wanted to “make the scales of justice balanced and achieve equality”. Al-Bashir was alluding to his refusal to cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC) which issued two arrest warrants against him in 2009 and 2010 for alleged war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed in Darfur. On Friday, al-Bashir received African Dignity Award at Nelson Mandela Hall in Addis Ababa University by the first African Dignity Forum "for being a symbol of resistance, strong leadership and his commitment for African institutions," according to the Ethiopian News Agency. Al-Bashir, who addressed the closing session of the Forum in the presence of the Ethiopia’s minister of interior, called on all African leaders to take practical steps to show respect and appreciation for the African justice mechanisms and spread good governance that is based on freedom, democracy and accountability. He said this “is an expression of respect and honour for all the African nations and for the glorious men and women who struggled for liberty and dignity of the continent.” “The honour put a responsibility upon me and my colleague the leaders of African countries to step up our struggle against discrimination and injustice”, he further stressed. He also demanded the African leaders to sign and ratify all treaties and conventions issued by the African Union to enhance human rights and support the work of institutions seeking to preserve dignity of the African people.

Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir on Saturday has pledged to destroy what he described as “institutions of injustice” saying he wouldn’t kneel down to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Al-Bashir returned to Khartoum on Saturday from Addis Ababa where he received the the African Dignity Award from the African Initiative for Pride and Dignity (AIPD) in recognition of his efforts in Africa. He was received at Khartoum airport by large crowds and senior government officials including the First Vice-President Bakri Hassan Salih. Al-Bashir, who appeared wearing a red bobble cloak and sat on a royal chair in a high platform, addressed the crowed saying he wouldn’t succumb to the ICC, saying the western countries don’t recognize that he represents the Sudanese people.
