Il deserto libico. La regione più estesa del Sahara. Paesaggi di rara bellezza, testimonianza della potenza della Natura. Ma anche epico teatro di imprese umane, nell’esplorazione, nella scienza e purtroppo altrettanto nel conflitto.
Gli studi dell’autore sugli aspetti storici e militari della presenza italiana in Libia si intrecciano con le osservazioni sul campo ed il confronto con amici e colleghi ricercatori, italiani e stranieri, nel tentativo di creare equilibrate e serene ricostruzioni di eventi ormai dimenticati, che settanta e più anni fa li avrebbero invece visti combattersi su fronti contrapposti.

The Libyan Desert. The broadest region of the Sahara. Landscapes of unrivalled beauty, evidence of Nature’s might. But also the epic stage of human deeds, in exploration, science and, unfortunately, war as well.
The author’s research on the historical and military aspects of the Italian presence in Libya are weaved together with field observations and dialogues with fellow researchers and friends, Italian and foreign, attempting to create balanced and unbiased reconstructions of already forgotten events, that seventy years ago or more would have seen them fighting each other on opposite fronts.
A little bit of the archaeologist’s job, looking for truth by observing the remains of battlefields, with their wrecks, almost untouched in the solitude of the deep desert. The adventure of a journey in the sands…
