I have the impression this group did not visit the "real" Trou Natron between Zouar and Bardai. Or am I wrong? By the way: I also hear there's a peace agreement now between the rebels that held Zouar for the last ten years and the government. Things really seem to settle down in Tibesti.

Just came back from Tibesti. Drove my Landcruiser from Holland to Ndjamena along the Atlantic route. From Ndjamena continued to Mao, Zouar and Bardai. Also visited the Trou Natron. Then on to Ennedi (Ounianga, Archei, Faya, Fada) and through Abeche back to Ndjamena. No problems, great trip. It seems we (our group consisted of 6 people in two cars from Holland, Germany and Austria) were the first tourists in Bardai since 11 years. In Ennedi we met some other tourists. Our security in Tibesti was guaranteed by a Tubu-colonel in the Chadian army. He also arranged two guides. We paid the colonel about 150 euro's a day.
Autorisation de circuler was arranged with the help of a local NGO in Tibesti, that wants to develop tourims in the region. It took two days. They also helped with invitations for our visa. We paid them for the work. 50 euro's a person in total. But you can also ask Tchad Evasion to help you, I think. Or Spazi.

great report and pictures! How was your experience in the East (Abeche)? And how was customs for your friends who shipped their car to Douala?? Isn't it tremendously corrupt?
Situation in Abeche seems ok. I think it should be more or less safe to continue from there to Nyala and Khartoum, if you have visa. My friend wanted to ship to Douala, but finally choose Cotonou. It took him a week and a lot of money to get the car cleared. Big problem. Maybe Douala is better, but I do not know.
