Südsudan - Spritproblem in Juba

Fuel shortage hits South Sudan againShortage of fuel has severely affected the government’s business in South Sudan as towns are facing blackouts while hundreds of vehicles line up at gas stations to try to get fuel. The situation is visibly felt in the new nation’s capital, Juba, where public electricity supply has been cut for two weeks, leaving the city in darkness [...] Despite being an oil producing country, South Sudan for the last seven years has depended on fuel imported from the neighbouring countries for its domestic consumption. The country has no single oil refinery which would have produced the needed fuel for domestic consumption.

Fuel crisis in South Sudan will soon be over, says media officialSouth Sudan’s fuel crisis which has lingered on for two weeks now may soon be a thing of the past, says a media official at the office of the country’s vice-president [...] the situation may soon change as millions of liters of various types of fuel are expected to arrive in Juba in the next few days [...] the government in collaboration with the local South Sudan Investment Corporation was importing ten vessels containing fuel from one of the Middle-eastern countries and that four of these vessels have already docked at Port Mombasa. He further explained that the chairperson of the South Sudan Investment Corporation, Ayii Duang Ayii, briefed the vice-president, Riek Machar, on the process of trucking the fuel to South Sudan from the Kenyan port of Mombasa.

South Sudan increases fuel prices amid further devaluation of local currencySouth Sudan’s state-owned Nile Petroleum company has announced that the recent decision by the Central Bank of South Sudan has forced them to impose new higher prices of fuel, increasing the retail sale three times higher to 22 South Sudanese pounds (SSP) per a litre. “You are all kindly notified effectively today the, 17th December, 2015 Nilepet new fuel rates shall be as follows: 1. Whole Salve rate (one truck) is 20 SSP per litre; 2. Depot is 21 SSP per litre; 3. Retail rate is 22 SSP per litre,” Nilepet said in a circular sent out on Thursday, a copy of which obtained by Sudan Tribune [...] The new development comes only three days since South Sudan central bank announced free floating of the South Sudanese pounds against foreign currencies, prompting further devaluation of the South Sudanese pounds with 20 SSP to 1 US dollar in the banks [...] Before the 15 December 2013 war erupted the official rate of the exchange was 2.9 SSP per 1 dollar and the price of fuel was only 6 SSP per litre, which has now jumped to 20 per litre according to the new announcement.

Fuel shortage hits South Sudan as commodity prices soarFuel shortage, resulting from the devaluation of the currency, has hit the South Sudanese capital, Juba. The situation has affected business operations in the country as residents are forced to queue at fuel stations in various places and residential areas of the town. Fuel shortage has seen prices increase from SSP60 per liter in October to SSP160 in recent days. [...] An official ministry of petroleum admitted the prevalence of limited reserve at the depot, saying the system has enough fuel for about two weeks. Another 8,500 gallons has been ordered, and if it is available, it would increase fuel reserves to another three weeks.
