2500 Seized antipersonnel mines case to be considered
The Criminal Court in Algiers, will consider a case relating to the 2500 antipersonnel mines, seized by the Algerian Army intelligence services, DRS, last June, at Maghnia region, westernmost province Tlemcen.
The case will be considered by next May11th, 2 people are involved in the case, during the trial, and they will deliver many important details about the bombs quantity they have attempted carrying to the centre of the country last summer.
The case facts back to last June, 2007, after the Army intelligence investigators have discovered as many as 2500 antipersonnel mines, at a private house in a town situated close to the Moroccan borders. The same investigators have discovered that the house was used as an antipersonnel mines stock; such mines have been infiltrated by the smuggling networks from the Moroccan borders, for the terrorists groups in the second region of Al-Qaeda terrorist organization branch in North Africa.
The people involved in the case, have been charged with pertaining, financing, and supplying a terrorist group with explosives. In this regard, El Khabar has published information related to the record stating that the investigations have started from Boumerdès, after the workshops of explosives manufacturing in Tedjelabine municipality, have been destructed, just after the April, 11th bombings targeting the Government headquarters in Algiers.

The same sources also indicated that this major batch of explosive devices had been smuggled through the Moroccan border into Algerian territory by an international arms trafficking network having close links with terrorist groups operating in the region.
These mines transit through the Moroccan border town of Oudjda where they are turned into bombs before being smuggled into Algeria by the traffickers who hand them over to the terror groups for use in bomb attacks on Algerian soil.
These smuggled deadly weapons were seized by the combined forces of the National Popular Army and the summer of 2007 during a large- scale combing operation carried out in the border region during which several terrorists were rounded up.
Algerian security forces Tuesday foiled an attempt to smuggle 183 anti-personal mines containing TNT in Tlemcen province (west of Algeria), according to the National gendarmerie.
The mines were carried on 2 motorcycles heading to bomb making workshops belonging to the terrorist Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) based in Boumerdes (50 km east of Algeria), said the same source.
Four of the smugglers led by a Moroccan national were arrested while two are still on the run. This is the 5th seizure of its kind carried out by the National Gendarmerie forces in Tlemcen in less than a year.
A total of 134 mines were seized in less than 2 weeks in eastern Algeria.
