ALGERIA: RAILWAY, TENDER FOR HIGH SPEED TRAIN LAUNCHED
31.08.2009 - ANSAmed

ALGIERS - Algeria is interested in opening a high speed train connection as part of the modernisation of its railroad network. ANESRIF, the national agency of studies and the follow-up of the realisation of railway investment, has launched a tender for the study of a 350km/h high velocity line. According to the Algerian press, the French Alstom, one of the sector's world leaders, is one of the main candidates. The high speed train is expected to connect the north of the country to the east, from the Tunisian border to Morocco, parallel to the east-west motorway which is under construction. Interested companies must present their offers before October 25.

ALGERIA: 795KM-RAILWAY PROJECT TO LINK NORTH AND SOUTH
01.09.2009 - ANSAmed

ALGIERS - Algeria will build four new railway lines, for an overall 795 km, to link the northern regions of the country to the deep Saharan South. The National Agency of Studies and the Follow-Up of the Realisation of the Railways Investment (ANESRIF) has put the construction of the new lines out to tender. The new railway lines will link Ghardaia (500km south of Algiers) to El Menea, and all the way to the Timimoun Oasis (1200 km south of the capital). With an eighteen billion USD budget already allocated as part of a five-year development plan 2004-2009 and the USD 56 billion destined to the transport sector by the economy recovery project 2009-2014, the Algerian government is aiming at a complete modernization of the national railway network which will grow from 3500 km to 6000 km by the end of 2014.
