TOURISM: TUNISIA, WORK CONTINUES ON 'WATER HIGHWAY'

TUNIS - Work is continuing to carry out the 'Street of water: from Zaghouan to Carthage' tourist project in an area that in ancient times was crossed by an aqueduct that brought water from Mount Zaghouan to Carthage using an efficient piping system. The project under way envisages a leisure area, including the ecological museum inaugurated by Tunisian President Ben Ali in 2007, as well as sections devoted to cultural and environmental tourism designed to protect the rich vegetation and animal life of Mount Zaghouan so as to enhance the area also known as a 'Water Temple.' The project also aims to provide special protection for the ecosystem in the natural park of Jebel Zaghouan consisting of some 2,000 hectares, and including 600 plant varieties.
