Militants kill 11 Algerian border guards

Algier - Suspected Islamist militants have killed 11 Algerian border guards in an apparent revenge attack near the country's border with Mali, news reports said on Wednesday. The Algerian internet news site Tout Sur Algerie reported that the border guards were ambushed in the province of Tamanrasset. A day earlier security forces had reportedly killed a high ranking member of the al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb organisation near the border with Mauritania.

3000 privates track down Tinzaouatine carnage perpetrators

Algerian military authorities have launched a wide combing operation on the borderline with Mali tracking down the terror group who killed 11 border guards Wednesday in the locality of Tinzaouatine, Tamnerasset province, 1200 km southern Algiers. 3000 privates have been mobilized to take part in this joint military operation.
The southern border with Mali has been closed down for 24 H, in order to facilitate the combing operation. Eyewitnesses in the Malian village of Bouguessa, 50 km southern Algerian-Malian border, told El Khabar they heard noises of helicopters, loud blasts and intense gunshots lasting four hours, since first light of Thursday.
However, it is understood that the government is tending to close down the southern borderline with Mali and Niger. Detectives serving for the National Gendarmerie have joined Tinzaouatine to investigate about the terror attack that left 11 border guards dead. It is worth mentioning that it is the first time Algerian forces are attacked by terrorists intruding from Mali.
