10 years imprisonment for beggars in Algeria

The Algerian government will spend 20 million DZ to conduct investigations about the growing number of beggars in the country. The minister of Solidarity Djamel Ould Abbas said Thursday before members of Parliament that this project will help uncover begging networks throughout the country. The government plans to toughen regulations regarding beggars and begging with children, specified Ould Abbas.
These investigations are designed, according to the minister to provide exhaustive information about poverty in Algeria. The new law is being worked out in accordance with the ground findings and sociological studies, he said
The change in the penal code will include fines against beggars up 500 000 DZ and up to 10 years of imprisonment
