ALGIERS - For the first time Algeria has invited tenders for the sale of uranium. According to a communiqué issued by the Algerian National Agency for Mining Assets (ANPM), it concerns 7 uranium-mining areas in the Tamanrasset region in southern Algeria, along the border with Mali and Niger. Following the initial selection (which will end on October 22), candidates will be able to take part in bidding for the exploration and exploitation contract for the fields, which will be launched on December 6. In addition to the uranium lots, also 13 gold fields in the same region of the Algerian Sahara have been proposed. The largest field of uranium in Algeria covers a surface area of 145,000 hectares and is in the Ain Tebareket region near the border with Niger.
