Counterterrorism experts says Al-Qaeda “dying”

The works of a conference on the strategies of Al Qaeda and its future risk on the regional and international levels have started yesterday in Cairo, Egypt.
An Algerian delegation partakes in the conference, along with several diplomats and counterterrorism experts from Arab and Islamic countries.
The Director of Research and Studies Centre on International Relations, at Algiers University, Amar Djefal, raised in his intervention, the issue of the development of Al-Qaeda’s strategies and networks in the Maghreb region.
Djefal said the majority of analysis and researches conducted on the issue of Islamic movements in the Maghreb region, confirm that Al-Qaeda suffers in this region from “constant increase of repentant that prefer laying down arms, to get benefit from national reconciliation and amnesty measures.”
He further indicated that Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb suffers from heavy losses, following painful strikes by the Algerian security services, while managing eliminating about 10 senior leaders during the 5 recent months, he said.
