EARTHQUAKES: LEBANON; TREMORS SOUTH OF BEQAA, NO CASUALTIES

BEIRUT - Two earthquakes shook southern Lebanon and the eastern Beqaa Valley this morning, without causing damage or claiming any victims, reported official press agency NNA, without specifying the intensity of the earthquake. Other sources in the press reported three earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.3, 3, and 3.5 on the Richter scale. NNA said that the epicentre of the earthquake was located near Tyre, a southern port 80km south of Beirut, and that tremors were felt in the entire southern region and in some zones in the eastern Beqaa Valley. In Srifa, a town in the province of Tyre where the earthquake was more strongly felt, residents temporarily left their homes, going out into the street. The region of southern Lebanon, where last year in February and July, earthquakes of medium intensity struck, is located in an area close to the slopes that border Israel and Syria.
