German websites sell Algerian antiques via Internet-based auction

German websites have started selling Algerian and Arab antique masterpieces via Internet-based auctions in collaboration with antiques smugglers in Algeria.

The websites show pictures of antiques in museums and archaeological sites located in Algeria. Ordered antiques are stolen and smuggled across borders to be sold abroad at high prices.

Customers abroad check the same websites to see the pictures and choose one.

The National Gendarmerie services have found out around 200 websites used by antiques smugglers to promote their ordered commodities.

A study made by First Lieutenant Sihem Abrousse says that the National Gendarmerie services have seized 1,310 antiques masterpieces meant to be smuggled since January.

Commander Abdelhamid Keroud said some diesel smuggling networks have turned to smuggle antiques owing to tempting offers.

Borders guards have recently seized antiques for sale on the Internet and meat to be smuggled. They were wrapped in plastic and put in a diesel drum.
