Die israelische Regierung hat angesichts anhaltender Medienspekulationen einen Krieg mit Syrien ausgeschlossen. "Syrien hat kein Interesse, Israel anzugreifen und umgekehrt", hieß es aus dem israelischen Verteidigungsministerium. Die in London herausgegebene arabische Tageszeitung "Al-Quds al-Arabi" hatte am Mittwoch berichtet, dass Syrien seine Truppen entlang der Grenze zu Israel verstärke.

(ANSAmed) - JERUSALEM - The Israeli media today paid much attention to the news concerning the strong military tension with Syria and referred to an atmosphere of concern in Israel. However, Deputy Prime Minister Haim Ramon tried to play down the risk of conflict. Newspapers dedicated their front pages to the issue. Yedioth Ahronoth published the title 'On Edge' with Syria on its front page and reported that there are an increasing number of signs in Israel that the Lebanese movement Hezbollah is preparing to avenge the assassination of the leader of its operative branch, terrorist Imad Mugniyeh, for whose organisation Israel is suspected.
