Sintflutartige Regenfälle haben in den letzten Tagen das Gebiet um Tindouf heimgesucht.

Torrid rain, never seen in the region since that of 1994, has stroke the Saharawi refugee camps in the Algerian region of Tindouf, without interruption, starting from Thursday, and continued for Friday and the first hours of Saturday, causing material damages and many wounded within the Saharawi refugees.

The damages, which were registered, touched the shelters of the citizens as well as the institutions such as schools, hospitals and other Governmental institutions, damaging more than 5O per cent of the refugee camps’ structure.

Despite the precarious situation, the Ministry of Interior would like to inform the Saharawi citizens, everywhere, as well as the public opinion that its services did not record cases of human death or serious wounds among the refugees, that to God.

The Ministry also calls on the Saharawi citizens to increasing solidarity, cooperation and mutual help so as to face the results of this rain, inciting them to avoid the utilisation of damaged buildings.

It further incite them to maintain their environment clean, hygiene and to avoid the use of non treated waters so as to prevent epidemic diseases or sickness that can result from such a situation" (SPS)

Heftige Regenfälle überfluten Flüchtlingslager in Algerien

Zehntausende Menschen benötigen dringend Hilfe, nachdem sintflutartige Regenfälle ihre Flüchtlingslager im Südwesten Algeriens überflutet haben. Wie das Flüchtlingskommissariat der Vereinten Nationen (UNHCR) und Offizielle in den saharischen Camps am Dienstag erklärten, hätten die Fluten viele der Lehmhäuser zerstört, in denen etwa 158000 Menschen seit ihrer Flucht aus dem umstrittenen Gebiet "West-Sahara" lebten. Und vor 2 Wochen gab es in Algerien extrem starke Regenfälle bei Illizi, das Oued Illizi trat über die Ufer, viele Häuser wurden zerstört und die Strasse nach Djanet war unterbrochen.

Schwere Unwetter in Algerien fordern mindestens zwölf Tote

Algier. DPA/baz. Mindestens zwölf Menschen sind in Algerien in den vergangenen Tagen durch schwere Unwetter mit Überschwemmungen im Nordosten und Süden des Landes ums Leben gekommen. In Msila und Bechar im Süden starben sieben Algerier, die von den gewaltigen Wassermassen mitgerissen worden waren, berichteten die Zeitungen in Algier am Samstag. In Skikda östlich von Algier kamen zwei Menschen um, deren baufälliges Haus dem Unwetter nicht standgehalten hatte und eingestürzt war. Insgesamt zwölf Menschen wurden verletzt.

Wieder Regen in der algerischen Sahara: in der Gegend um Tazrouk, 165 km nordöstlich von Tamarasset, wurden 10 Häuser durch das Unwetter zerstört:

Bad Weather Causes Destruction in Sahara
The North Africa Journal: Oct. 10, 2006

The heavy rains that fell on the Algerian Sahara have cause important damages. In one municipality, Tazrouk, 165 km in the northeastern part of Tamanrasset, 10 houses have been demolished by the heavy rains. These houses were constructed of a local building material called Toub, which is not suited to dealing with sustained rain falls.

The bad weather recorded this fall also results in the uprooting of hundreds of fruit trees, flooding, and loss of dozens of irrigation wells with the destruction of their pumping equipment. Several roads have been closed as the amount of rain that fell on the Ahaggar region amounted to 27.5 millimeters.

Starke Regenfälle auch in Nordtunesien!

wie mir gestern abend, nach meiner rückkehr, von unseren bekannten telefonisch mitgeteilt wurde hat es auch nordtunesien erwischt.
wir haben schon am freitag eine grosse gewitterfront in tunis mitbekommen.

sehr starke regenfälle im cap bon. schulen waren geschlossen und überschwemmungen im bereich hammamet, nabeul und kelibia.

Täusche ich mich, oder wird das mit den Regenfällen in Nordafrika immer heftiger? Ich kann mich nicht daran erinnern, daß wir das vor 20 Jahren hatten. Schön dass es auch in trockenen Gebieten regnet.
Aber wenn, dann heißt es immer Land unter und der Regen richtet immer große Schäden an.

BAD WEATHER: ALGERIA, 3 CHILDREN DIE IN FLOODS

ALGIERS - Three children have died in Arbaouet, in the west of Algeria, following floods caused by the storms which hit the central regions of the country in the last 24 hours. The initial count by the Civil Protection service was announced to the Aps press agency. In the regions of Setif (east) and Laghouat (south), continues the statement, at least seven people were rescued after being trapped in their vehicles after being swept away by the torrents.

WEATHER: ALGERIA, FLOOD VICTIMS TOLL RISES TO 16

ALGIERS - The wave of bad weather that hit central Algeria last Wednesday has caused 16 deaths so far including four children. According to the latest Civil Protection reports released by APS, two people died in Biskra and M'sila (in the south east) on Saturday and another eight were drowned in the waters of a flooding seasonal river in El Bayahd, 700 km to the south west of Algiers. Near Naama, also in the south west, four people from the same family were drowned in their car. In the same area a man was killed after being struck by lightening. Thursday the vice prefect of Laghouat, 400 km south of Algiers, was killed in the storm.

BAD WEATHER: ALGERIAN CIVIL PROTECTION ISSUES WARNING

ALGIERS - After flooding that killed at least 16 people last week in Algeria, the Civil Protection agency issued a warning telling all citizens to use the maximum amount of caution with more bad weather on the way. In order to avoid incidents that could be caused by swelling dry riverbeds that contain water only during times of heavy rain, known as wadi, a note from the Civil Protection agency reported by the Algerian press recommended to not travel "by foot or in cars" and to not stop under bridges. All citizens living near rivers have also been requested to use the maximum prudence and caution. Dry throughout the rest of the year, the wadi can fill in just a few hours, killing dozens each year.
