Forces from South Sudan’s army, Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), have begun a disarmament campaign in Unity state’s volatile Mayom County where rebels have been fighting the government ... On Monday Mayom’s Commissioner, Martin Machot Deng, warned citizens through state radio Bentiu FM 99 to handover their illegal arms to the SPLA. If weapons are not handed over peacefully, force would be applied in the areas affected by the rebels.
At least 76 people, most of whom are the elderly, women and children, have been killed in South Sudan’s Warrap State, according to the speaker of the state. Several others are reported to have sustained multiple injuries. Hundreds of cattle are also reported to have been stolen ... The cause of attack on villages belonging to the Luac Jang ethnic group remains unknown although authorities in Warrap State claimed the attack was carried out by an armed group from neighboring Unity state. Speaking to Sudan Tribune on Sunday, Madot Dut Deng, said that the attack occurred early on Saturday in Tong East County ... “Our people have been disarmed. They do not have any weapons. This is why they have been vulnerable to such attacks by the neighboring communities who remained with their weapons”
At least 37 people have been killed in South Sudan during a shoot-out at a peace meeting aimed at ending recent violence, officials said. Officials from three states and the UN had met for talks in the remote town of Mayendit in Unity state in an effort to reduce inter-ethnic tensions. Those killed in the gun battle included civilians, but most were police.
A comprehensive disarmament of the civilian population in the volatile Jonglei state will begin on 1 March, the South Sudan government have announced. Salva Mathok Gengdit, South Sudan’s deputy minister of interior told the press on Thursday that 12,000 soldiers and police have already been deployed to Jonglei state in preparation for the project to disarm all the communities in Jonglei state.
Four women have died in Jonglei State’s Akobo County following an attack on Thursday, which local MPs have blamed on members of the Murle tribe. Representatives for Akobo County in the Jonglei State Assembly say the attack took place in Manyjok, a western sub-district of Akobo county.
A Nuer elder Stephen Puok Choljok, from Nyirol County in Jonglei State, came to The Citizen newspaper recently to explain the root causes of the conflict in Jonglei State [...] He also proposed that the capital of Jonglei State should be transferred to a different place called Gatdeang instead of Bor so that it is central to all the tribes of the State. He Bor is situated at the edge of the state border with Juba and should be taken further inland to be comfortable to all the tribes. Puok said at Gatdeang there is a fantastic road network which leads to five directions and such a scenario is not found anywhere in the South. From this spot the roads go to Akobo, to Pochalla, to Pibor, to Fangak and to Bor [...] He further said since the state population is growing to one million it can be divided into two states and they can be called South and North States of Jonglei.
At least 30 people have been killed and more than 15 injured in fresh clashes between armed groups from the Lou Nuer and Murle ethnic groups in Jonglei state’s Nyirol county since Friday 2 March, according to the county commissioner. Nyirol county commissioner, Kuach Duoth told Sudan Tribune that the attackers were cattle-rustling members of the Murle ethnic group. "A huge number of Murle youth attacked on Nyuon cattle camp. They killed about 30 young men, wounded 15 and made away with 15,000 heads of cattle", Duoth said.

Entwaffnung der Zivilbevölkerung! So beginnen alle guten Vorsätze von Regierung, UN und Hilfsorganisationen: Gewehre einsammeln, registrieren, vernichten oder wegschließen. Klingt simpel – bis man...
"Nun zu den schwierigeren Problemen: Wie überzeugt man Zivilisten (vor allem Männer) inmitten eines auf Klans und Ethnien gestützten bitteren Konkurrenzkampfes um Ressourcen und sozialen Status davon, ihre Waffen aufzugeben, wenn es keinen Staat gibt, der Sicherheit herstellen kann?"
Bei den Sudanesen geht es wohl oft wirklich um's Ueberleben. Und wenn der Staat die Sicherheit der Buerger nicht gewaehrleistenkann, dann gibt es wohl nicht viele guten Argumente, die ebendiese Buerger davon ueberzeugen koennten, ihre Waffen, die sie zum Selbstschutz bei sich haben, abzugeben. Eigentlich wuesste ich keines.

Bis vor wenigen Jahren hat man auf der ganzen Welt Waffen (und auch alles andere) ohne 'Software' registrieren und verwalten koennen. Oftmals wahrscheinlich sogar effizienter als man es mit Software heute macht. Warum soll das nun im Sudan nicht gehen? Vielleicht liegt es an den Experten aus Europa, wleche nicht mehr ohne Laptop unterwegs sein koennen?
Ist doch alles nur eine Alibiübung.
Feuerwaffen einziehen in Ländern wie Sudan, Somalia etc. bringt überhaupt nichts, ausser dass sich die Bevölkerung gar nicht mehr wehren kann.
Nimmt man die Kalaschnikows weg, wird wieder mit Macheten gekämpft, Beispiele auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent gibt es genug.
Ich würde lieber durch eine Kugel sterben als verstümmelt verbluten.
Auch in Europa herrscht der Irrglauben, dass weniger Waffen weniger Gewaltdelikte bedeutet.
In England hat man vor Jahren die Feuerwaffen eingestampft, die Delikte mit solchen haben jedoch seither zugenommen.
In der Schweiz sind hundertausende Waffen im Privatbesitz, Delikte damit sind nicht höher als in Ländern mit strengeren Waffengesetzten wie zB. in der BRD oder England.
Man muss die Bevölkerung befrieden und die Waffen im Besitz des einzelnen lassen, so kann sich auch ein Normalbürger im Fall der Fälle wehren.
Ich würde eher sagen, man muss den Leuten den vernünftigen Umgang mit der Waffe beibringen und auf die Gefahren hinweisen.
Der Staat kann in keinem Land der Welt für die Sicherheit seiner Bürger garantieren, wieso soll sich dann der gesetzestreue Bürger entwaffnen lassen.
Die Kriminellen kommen immer an Waffen, die Bürger jedoch treibt man damit in die Illegalität.
Ich höre jetzt schon wieder die Unkenrufe, nur die Realität gibt mir recht.

Armed raiders alleged to be Murle tribesmen have taken control of cattle camps and villages in Dengjok Payam (district) of Akobo County, Jonglei State killing many people, sources have told Sudan Tribune. The fighting, that began at 5am on Friday, comes as Jonglei prepares for a mass disarmament campaign after a series of large scale clashes between rival cattle herding groups in South Sudan’s largest state. Four steam boats full of wounded people reached Akobo town on Friday evening from Dengjok, a resident told Sudan Tribune.
Jonglei State’s Akobo commissioner says between 500 and 800 are missing some of them feared dead following Friday’s dawn attack on cattle camps and villages by armed Murle tribesmen [...] “There are reports that many children are abducted,” he added. Due to the remote location Sudan Tribune has not been able to independently verify the claims [...] He said: “There are no medicines and it is very difficult to reach” Dengjok Payam (district) which is about 90 kilometres north of Akobo town.

At least three people are reported dead and ten injured in an attack on a bus at Pan-Modi, in Jonglei state near the border with Central Equartoria state (CES) at 12.20 pm on Friday [...] the bus that left Bor at 10.30 am and was attacked by a group of unknown gunmen in the bush bordering CES. One of the people killed was the private secretary to South Sudan minister of Parliamentary Affaris, Makuei Lueth. Ten passengers remain missing after the attack [...] the attackers, who fired at close range, were member of the Murle ethnic group. Allegedly, two other buses have been attacked on the Bor-Juba road today, the number of deaths and injuries for which is currently unknown.
Auf der Strecke Bor-Juba kam es am Freitag zu drei Überfällen auf Überlandbusse mit Toten, Verletzten und Entführungen. Einer davon ausgeführt durch Murle bei Pan-Modi. Diese Überfälle haben nichts mehr mit Stammeskriegen untereinander zu tun, und hier geht es auch nicht um ihre heiligen Kühe. Das ist eine andere Dimension
