TRANSPORT: TUNISIA, NEW SFAX-TRIPOLI FERRY CROSSING

TUNIS - An initiative by Med Business Holding to connect Sfax (Tunisia) with Tripoli (Libya) by sea is reaching the final stages. Weekly newspaper L'Observateur de Tunisie writes that a ship capable of carrying 1,400 passengers and 400 vehicles will leave from Sfax in the late evening and will arrive in Tripoli at 7 òclock the following morning. Bus connections between Tunis and Sfax are to be provided for passengers arriving on the ferry. The new line will be run by Generale Transit et Transport, a member of the Med Business Holding group.

Hmmmm. Hab' mir das mal auf der Karte angeschaut. Mitter Faehre wuerde man ich etwa 100 Kilometer Strecke sparen... Aber wenn ich mir ausdenke, wie lange es geht, bis man vom Hafeneingang auf dem Pott ist und dasselbe dann Rueckwaerts in Tripolis... da waere ich wahrscheinlich selbst mit meinem Roverli auf der Strasse etwas schneller. Wird wohl nicht DER Hit fuer die ' Wuestenfahrer'. Wahrscheinlich aber auch nicht fuer diese Klientel gedacht

TRANSPORT: SFAX-TRIPOLI PASSENGER SERVICE TO START ON 12/11

TUNIS - The first ferry to provide a regular passenger sevice between Sfax (southern Tunisia) and Tripoli (Libya), will begin on the evening of Thursday December 11, reaching its destination on the following morning. An interesting aspect of this new service is that it will make the voyage in both direction during the hours of darkness, sailing once every two days. As for ticket prices, they vary from a minimum of 40 dinars (around 20.5 euros) to a maximum of 440 dinars (around 227 euro) depending on the kind of accommodation chosen. Travel is free for children aged under two. As was stressed during the project's presentation, it comes as part of the strengthening of commercial, tourism, health and manufacturing ties between the two countries. And, ahead of the construction of the Sfax - Ras Jdir (Libya) motorway, it should have a positive impact on the present chaotic level of traffic in both directions on frontier roads.

Elle est moins chère que l’avion et le bus et a de fortes chances de faire l’adhésion des Tunisiens et des Libyens. Il s’agit de cette nouvelle ligne maritime que vient de lancer la société GTT entre Sfax et Tripoli. Dans le cadre de l’extension de ses activités vers l’armement maritime, GTT a créé, à travers son nouveau département « Ferries », une ligne régulière de transport maritime de passagers entre la Tunisie et la Libye au moyen du Car Ferry Habib [...]

[...] Quant aux prix, ils varient entre 40 et 120 dinars en fonction du choix du passager s’il désire traverser en fauteuil ou avoir une cabine exclusive à lui seul (80 dinars s’il s’agit de deux personnes). Pour les véhicules, le prix est de 40 dinars pour les voitures de tourisme et de 60 dinars pour les bus. Offenbar hat die COTUNAV bis nächsten Sommer eine neue Fähre...

Zwei interessante Kleinigkeiten auf der Webseite von GTT Ferries:

1.) Formalitäten an Bord, das könnte dann doch angenehmer sein als an der Landgrenze

2.) Es gibt wohl nur zwei Abfahrten pro Woche (ursprünglich war von drei Abfahrten die Rede
