Eritrea: Historical Sites in Asmat Sub-Zone Could Attract Tourists, Say the Local Inhabitants

Asmat — The inhabitants of Era and Orotta administrative areas in Asmat sub-zone stated that there exist historical sites in their respective localities that could make due contribution in attracting tourists and developing the tourism sector.

They said that there are various relics in the historical site of "Bi'at." The Administrator of the sub-zone, Mr. Abubaker Mohammed Jimi'e, indicated that different relics exist in this site including jewelry, souvenirs, pots, big caves and the like dating back to the days of Turkish rule and before.

The branch head of the Ministry of Tourism in Anseba region, Mr. Mogos Asgedom, on his part pointed out that Bi'at in the Orotta administrative area, Aratuk in Halhal sub-zone, Kerkebet, Tseada-Emba and Debresina monasteries, De'arit, Kunie, Geleb and the surroundings of the Anseba river are some of the historical sites that are of major tourism attraction.
