Nach mehr als 20 Jahren auf der Flucht ergab sich eine fuehrende Person der AQIM, Abou Dedjana, den Algerischen Behoerden.
Der Mann war offensichtlich verantwortlich fuer die Verwaltung der Einnahmen aus dem Geiselgeschaeft der AQIM.
Nach Behoerdenangaben haben sich seit 2005 etwa 8'500 Terroristen in Algerien ergeben und etwa 1'600 wurden im gleichen Zeitraum unschaedlich gemacht oder gefasst. Die Statistik haelt auch fest, dass im Vergleich zu 2007, wo es noch 1'058 Opfer von terroristischen Anschlaegen gegeben hatte, im Jahr 2011nur noch 216 Leute von den Terroristen ermordet wurden.

Algerian troops say they have killed a key al-Qaeda militant during an ambush in the north of the country. Boualem Bekai, also known as Khaled al-Mig, died on Friday near Tizi Ouzou in the mountainous Kabylie region. His identity was confirmed on Sunday by his family, who collected his body from a hospital in the city, security officials said. Bekai was reportedly the number two in al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (Aqim), which was formed in 2007.

Algeria reviews border security after Tamanrasset operation

Algerian troops on Tuesday (May 13th) killed two terrorists in Boumerdes, bringing to 14 the number of militants killed this month, the defence ministry said.

One of the two slain terrorists was identified as Bouchlaala Abdenour, aka Abou Abdelilah, a prominent figure of al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). The 37-year-old native from Khemis El Khechna joined armed groups 15 years ago. He was one of the most wanted elements by security forces for his role in planning the suicide operations that rocked Algeria since 2007.

Twelve militants were also killed in an ongoing operation launched in Tamanrasset, near the Mali border. Ten were eliminated last week, and then the army on Monday found bodies of two more terrorists west of Tinzouatine mehr...
